Things to know

Who can apply?

You can invest with WorldTrader if you:

Are 18 or older
Are a Qatar resident with a valid Qatar ID or passport
Have an HSBC Qatar current or savings account
Have an HSBC investment account in either GBP, EUR or USD (we can set you up as part of the application process if you don't have one)
Are registered for online banking

Other eligibility criteria may apply.

If you're already an HSBC Qatar resident customer, no additional documents are required - so long as your personal details on our records are up to date.

If you're not an HSBC Qatar resident customer, please visit any of our branches in Qatar with the following documents:

Original passport with valid work permit/ residence and Qatar ID issued by Ministry of Interior (Expatriates)
Qatar ID issued by Ministry of Interior (Nationals)

For joint accounts, both applicants need to provide the required documents.

Please note, that we may request further information or documentation from you, in order to comply with the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and Common Reporting Standards (CRS).

If you'd like to open a joint investment account, both account holders must agree who will be the primary account holder. The primary account holder will then complete the application with their relationship manager.

Both account holders must meet the eligibility requirements.

Frequently asked questions

When you open an investment account with Interactive Brokers UK (IBUK), you will get funding accounts in 3 currencies: USD, EUR and GBP.

You can only fund your WorldTrader account from one of your HSBC Qatar bank accounts, in mobile or online banking.

Follow these steps:

Log on to WorldTrader in online banking and note down your unique U number (example: U12345678) from your profile details
Select 'New Payment to a person', then select 'HSBC account', and enter the WorldTrader client funding account details, which you can find in online banking under Investments
Select 'Pay and transfer' from the top menu or from the 'Quick links' on the home page. Then select the bank account you wish to debit funds from
Enter the amount to be transferred. Under 'Reference', you must enter your U number, including the 'U', every time you fund your investment account
Review the details of your transaction and select 'Confirm' to complete your transaction
You must use online banking to add new payees. Once added, you can fund your WorldTrader account in mobile banking

In WorldTrader you can access stocks, bonds and mutual funds, corporate actions, statements and reports, the bonds scanner and product research.

No, you can only move money from your WorldTrader account to your HSBC account. Then you can transfer the funds to your other accounts.

Streaming market data in WorldTrader is updated in time-based snapshot intervals, which can vary by product and region. Tick by tick data can only be retrieved if using an API. The average snapshot interval is 250ms for the following assets:

Europe: Stocks, bonds and indices   
Hong Kong: All products
United States: All products

You can get information on upcoming voluntary corporate actions in WorldTrader.

If you get a notification regarding an open voluntary corporate action, log on to WorldTrader in your browser and submit your election in the Corporate action manager. 

Once the cash or asset allocation is completed, you can view the activity on your Daily account statement under Corporate actions.

To set up recurring investment plans for equities and ETFs.

Log on to WorldTrader in online banking
Select the 'Recurring investments' tab
Select 'Create Recurring Investment'
Search and select the stock to create a recurring investment plan
Enter the start date, amount, interval and end date
Select 'Continue' then 'Save investment' to successfully create a recurring investment plan

If you want to create an HSBC perpetual savings plan, please contact your relationship manager.

Log on to WorldTrader in online banking
Select Performance and reports, then Statements 
Select Default statement, type Activity and set your preferred period
Select Run
